00:01 Gday folks. Sunday morning, 5:00 AM bike ride, stopped for a coffee at the end, went for a dip in the ocean, came home, had a spectacular breakfast, read a book, and here we are. 00:17 Well, didn’t read a book, fiddled with a book and listened to Instagram humor posts for half an hour. Today, today I would like to talk to you about what makes life special. 00:34 Now it’s, it’s sort of, it’s sounds a bit rhetorical, but if, if we have the perfect relationship with the perfect family and the perfect job with the perfect health, with the perfect circumstances, that will be very good. 00:49 But what makes that situation perfect is this thing the way we think. And if you go on the internet and say, how should I think or What philosophy should I follow? 01:02 I think like me, you’ll be just shattered at the number of people who are telling us, you and me, how to think their religions, right? 01:14 Their, their beliefs are right. And you only have to go on humans of New York on Instagram and see that one person posts a story about being gay. 01:28 6,000 comments come on, such a thing. And they range from disgrace to encouragement. So you know it. And then you, everything on Netflix got a theme and everything on TV’s got a theme. 01:43 Everything’s telling you ultimately the best way to be even one of my favorite kids shows, which is called Stillwater, on apple tv, which is not TV at all, it’s Netflix with Apple. 02:00 It, it’s built on Zen Buddhism. So there’s themes, there’s, there’s agendas to everything. And I think it’s lovely that we have them. 02:11 It’s beautiful that we get encouraged to change the way we think. We don’t know if we are becoming more or less of a terrorist while we do. 02:21 So, last week I did a talk on gratitude. And for the first time in my life I spoke about the pitfalls of it. 02:29 And I think that’s a really important awareness. There can’t be a positive without a negative as we know, if you, and in summary, if you, if you have a balanced thought and you add gratitude, gratitude is perfect. 02:44 But if you have an unbalanced thought such as an elation or a depression, and you add gratitude, you just escalate the problem you take. 02:53 If you have an unbalanced thought and it’s positive and you’re thankful, you just elate more. If you have a depressed thought and you’re thankful, you just depress more. 03:02 And so gratitude is beautiful, provided you create a sense of balance beforehand. So it was confronting, I think, to people to hear that. 03:15 I would in any way give a negative spin to what everybody holds on so preciously, which is gratitude. So I just want to go over today some fundamental principles that might be good to remind you about. 03:35 First and foremost is the objective of learning. How to think is to think. We don’t want to be told how to think or think how someone else thinks. 03:46 We want to think, and most people think that they think, and therefore they’re on a treadmill. They’re heading towards hard work. 03:57 They’re heading towards an early death. They’re looking forward to holidays. They wish they weren’t where they are, they’re stressed. They’re getting breaking down. 04:05 And, and what we really wanna say to ourselves and others is that it doesn’t have to be that way. We don’t have to be mean. 04:14 We don’t have to be violent. We don’t have to be cruel. What we can be is authentic, real in being real. 04:22 Sometimes the things that we expect to happen don’t happen, and we have to deal with a shift in the reality that we, we expect. 04:31 And the question’s going to be where do we go? Do we fight for reality? Do we fight to get it the way we want it? 04:37 Or do we surrender and keep it the way we’ve got it? So I go over the five principles of nature’s universal laws. 04:46 Now, just quickly, the first law of nature, universal law of nature is law of balance. Nature is not in balance. 04:54 Nature is seeking balance in all things. So nature is working all the time to get balance. The tides are coming in and going out. 05:04 The breath is going in and going out. The weather patterns are going in high pressure to low pressure. They’re trying to equalize. 05:12 So everything’s always trying to equalize. But that doesn’t mean that it stays equal. It immediately goes out of balance and nature tries to get it back in balance. 05:22 So if you’re in an office and, and expecting everybody to work harmoniously and happily ever after, and in balance and in tune, think again. 05:31 If you just go out in nature, you’ll see that’s not the way it happens. The four seasons is a great example. 05:38 Day and night, the cycles of the moon, it’s all seeking balance. And sometimes those cycles, we are caught up in the cycle trying to create an immediate reaction. 05:51 And sometimes it’s wise to just see where we are in the flow of something that’s seeking balance rather than be trying to punctuate it or fight in order to get balance. 06:06 But that also means that every stress is a lie, because stress is an unbalanced thought. When we have more negatives than positive, we call it stress. 06:15 Anxiety is a lie. Anxiety is more negative than positive or more positive than negative. And we are afraid of losing it. 06:24 And so a lot of what’s called mental health problems comes from the belief that unbalanced thoughts are desirable. I hope you’ve worked with me long enough now to know that that is just not the case. 06:41 The second principle of nature is that everything is growing. Everything’s evolving. Going somewhere in the big story, it’s going back to where it came from. 06:54 This earth will one day be sucked into the sun and everything on it, including you and me and our ancestors and our fourth, you know, children and what have you, they’ll go to. 07:07 So we can’t be here in this way, and we are evolving to get off it. That may be a billion years. 07:12 Henson, yes, it’s trickle feed. It’s the Chinese water torture as they call it. But it’s the slow, the slow feed. 07:23 It’s the same in your life. You are evolving to go somewhere. Inevitably, you will not be in this body at the end of your life. 07:30 You will have to move past that. In the meantime, you have some sense of purpose in life that is allows you to have a direction of that evolution. 07:42 So if you’re evolving, moving forward, in what direction is that evolution taking place? And you’re evolving at the border of support and challenge. 07:51 I think a lot of us forget that and we forget. The challenge is as important to us as support in our evolution, <affirmative> nature. 08:04 It whatever you judge you breed in your children, attract in a partner or a boss or become, it’s nature’s way of saying you’re gonna evolve whether you like it or not, and especially if you don’t like it. 08:19 So if you judge it, you’re gonna attract it, breed it, or become it. It’s nature’s way of saying that’s your evolution. 08:30 So life never gets smaller. We evolve to bigger things. The, so we’ve got stress, anxiety caused by imbalance. We’ve got people putting their foot on the break of life and getting punched or pushed into their evolution, challenged by, because they’ve tried to hold back and stay safe. 08:51 The third one is, is quite miraculous. And the third one is that the concept of nothing’s ever missing. It’s the concept of abundance in terms of the, the human mindset. 09:07 Nothing is further from the, from the American way. So one of my whole movies, and I have a copy of it I doubt I bought the series of Superman. 09:19 And you know, he, he stands for Truth, justice and the American Way. I, I’m not always sure that the American way is abundant. 09:30 I think the American way is the lack of abundance and the seeking of it, which becomes addictive. So I think we need to be careful. 09:39 You know, America, we’ve got a lot to thank for and I love America. I’ve lived there and I’ve worked there and I’ve owned businesses in the States, and I love everything about America. 09:49 But not everything is necessarily healthy to inherit the idea that if we work hard, we’ll have what we haven’t got. 09:59 If we pray hard, we’ll ha ve what we haven’t got. If we compete, we’ll have what we haven’t got. This idea of chase, this desire, this appetite is ultimately what the Buddhism would call the, the expression of the ego and the cause of all human suffering. 10:19 So I don’t necessarily think it’s bad to have goals and pursue things and have an appetite. So I’m not as fundamental as the Buddhist system would be. 10:29 But I do also believe that if you can understand the concept of abundance, it’ll do a great good. The fourth one is it’s kind of like saying life is music and whatever we play, whatever music we play depends on how we think. 10:50 And this is where gratitude comes in. Because if we play a beautiful note with gratitude, if we play a note with gratitude, we take that tonality of the note and we expand it out and reflect it. 11:03 So gratitude is about giving. It’s about music, it’s about the tonality of our thoughts, tonality of our voice, tonality of our heart. 11:12 And, and we ca we have control of that. Most, many people or most people I’d say, don’t try to control their emotion. 11:21 They are run by it. I’m not sure you’re gonna get the right music doing that. And the fifth one, which for business people I, I think could be the most fascinating, and that is that everything’s hierarchical in nature. 11:41 The most evolved thing is at the top. But in business and social life, the person who screams louder sometimes gets the top and they have the least, least consciousness. 11:54 The person who’s been there the longest gets to the top, but they don’t necessarily have the most consciousness. So we, what we have is a huge number of very unconscious people above very, more conscious people. 12:08 And this is going to cause a fight. This is what’s called a tsunami or a earthquake. And so if you are in that situation, you need to certainly rise above it. 12:23 Secondly, have a vision bigger than the person who’s blocking you on the path. And thirdly, believe and, and know that being hard and cruel and reacting to them is gonna make this matter worse. 12:36 The law of hierarchy also says that you’ve got many feelings and many emotions, and they’re all competing with each other doing their own thing. 12:44 So it would be wise to have a higher sense of purpose, a higher vision, so that you can, you can rise to the one and release the many. 12:55 So the idea of evolution is as you go up a cone, you get, it gets narrower. You’ve probably still got the same volume of challenge, but it’s now confined to less topics. 13:09 And we do that by having a single sense of purpose and a single sense of vision. So they’re the five universal laws. 13:16 None other cause anything in the entire universe to function. And all of these laws explain all magic or miracles, all healing, all success in business and, and certainly explains love at home. 13:30 So the applic, the knowing the laws is one topic. Applying them is the most important one. This is Chris. Have a great day. 13:39 Bye.
