Introduction
Good morning, good afternoon, wherever you are—this is Chris. Today, we’re diving into a vital aspect of conscious leadership: positively impacting your environment. As conscious leaders, it’s about more than just living inspired lives; it’s about bringing that inspiration to the world around us. But let’s break this down a bit because I know you’re already a creative, conscious individual who cares deeply about your impact.
The Influence of Love
You likely already understand the profound influence love has on your environment. You love your family, partner, and past; if you’ve done some inner work, you might even love the future. This love you carry is a powerful force that enhances the world and the people around you. The more love we have, the better we—and those around us—become.
We see this in everyday life: those who grieve often do so because they’ve lost something they loved. People struggling in their work may have lost their passion for it, turning it into a mechanical routine devoid of love when we observe arguments and conflicts, whether at work or home, it’s often a sign that mindless attachments and emotions have replaced love. So, it’s clear: the more we love something, the better it is.
What Does Love Look Like at Work?
But what does love look like in a professional setting? Love, in its truest form, can’t be confined to words—it’s a state of being. Just as you can’t force meditation but can only create the conditions for it to occur, love works the same way. Many people confuse love with infatuation, attraction, or attachment, which are surface-level emotions.
At the lower levels of consciousness—what we might call the “got-to, should-do, need-to” mindset—love is conditional and attached. If you’re at a “got-to” level, love requires something to exist. At the “should” level, love comes with expectations that something or someone must behave a certain way to be lovable. On the “need-to” level, love is about fulfilling personal needs, making it conditional on the other to meet those needs.
Even in these lower levels of consciousness, people experience what they call love, and it’s not wrong—it’s just a different kind of love. For example, people get married and have children operating within these levels, feeling deeply in love. They are attracted to each other (“got-to”), feel a moral obligation (“should”), and rely on each other to meet their needs (“need-to”). They may also want to stay in the relationship to avoid being alone (“want-to”). These are all valid, beautiful experiences of love.
Uplifting Your Environment Through Love
However, when we talk about positively impacting your environment, we’re talking about elevating this experience of love. It’s about doing what you love, loving what you do, and creating more love in the environment around you, starting with your headspace.
At work, love manifests as both support and challenge. You might receive praise and encouragement, but you’ll also face criticism and setbacks. In your health, you’ll experience both well-being and illness. In your finances, there will be gains and losses. There will be moments of connection and conflict in relationships, sometimes even within the same day. In your mind, you’ll feel both powerful and overwhelmed. Socially, you’ll be liked and disliked.
Embracing the Duality of Life
At the conscious level we’re discussing, love involves accepting this duality—support and challenge, attraction and repulsion, order and chaos. Love is not about choosing the easy path; it’s about choosing what truly matters to you, knowing that support and challenge will come your way regardless.
Recognising that love exists in everything you do can transform your environment—particularly the environment within your mind and heart, which is far more crucial than the physical environment. If your mind seeks only support without challenge, you’ll end up feeling depressed. If it desires only attraction without repulsion, you’ll eventually resent the very things you once loved. Finding peace in the balance of support and challenge is essential to experiencing true love.
The Impact of Love on Your Environment
This understanding is the first step to positively impacting your environment. When you acknowledge that love is everywhere, you change how you feel, which, in turn, changes how everyone around you feels.
The next step is to identify where love is missing in your life because that’s where stress takes root. Stress isn’t just about feeling tense; it’s a sign that you’re moving backward in some aspect of your life—mentally, emotionally, financially, socially, or spiritually. Stress and love cannot coexist, just as gratitude and unhappiness cannot.
Conclusion: Putting Yourself in a Position for Love
To truly change your environment, both within and without, you must commit to experiencing love in its whole form. While love can’t be defined or written down, you can create the conditions for it to flourish. See the balance in life, be grateful for what you have, and put yourself where love can happen—just as you would with meditation.
Remember, love begins within you, and your environment shapes your world. By embracing love in all its forms—support and challenge, attraction and repulsion—you’ll change your environment and positively impact everyone around you.
This is Chris. Have a beautiful day. Bye for now.
