0:01 Good day. I’m presenting you today a short discussion on the art of leadership. I hope you enjoy it. What is leadership? 0:13 Well, a leader drives transition. I think we’ve given enough rhetoric to the concept of leadership to know that if you Google leadership tomorrow on Google, you’ll get around 5.8 billion hits and everybody thinks they tell the right time, but let’s look at leadership in a fresh way. 0:43 2023, a leader drives transition and transitions never stop. Let’s look at what we mean by a transition. Transition means you have one foot on the brake, the other foot on the accelerator, but never at the same time. 1:04 We know that a person with the greatest certainty leads, but certainty of what? Let’s look at that. Where are we going? 1:15 Vision. Why are we here? Purpose? Who are we inspiration and where do we come from Creating believability and trust. When we speak about vision for a business or a leader, a vision is essential to drive a transition because people need to know where they’re going. 1:43 And if people don’t know where they’re going, they won’t go with you. So let’s say step one in transition leadership or driving transitions is a clear wow vision, but if you were going to Europe tomorrow and taking someone with you, you would break that down into a step like, we’re going to the airport. 2:08 Wow, We’re going to fly Singapore and have a great trip. Wow, we’re going to fly to Dubai and have a night in a hotel. 2:19 Wow, and we’re going to go to Europe. You would break it down digestible stages of a clear wow vision in order to sell a vision. 2:28 A vision is basically saying, where are we going? What’s in it for me? What are the stages to get there? 2:35 And can you infatuate me please? Which means sell it? Most importantly, hear, vision setting is storytelling. If you can’t see the vision in your mind’s eye, then your words are just ai, robotic talk, and that’s not going to inspire people. 2:59 Inspiration is the second step. Who are we? Why are we here and why are we doing this? Inspiration is when the inner voice of the leader speaks louder than the outer voices of emotion and doubt. 3:17 This is essential for a leader to cultivate because it helps them turn up. Gratitude for the past builds trust and loyalty to drive transition. 3:30 Gratitude for the past builds teamwork. The energy to move forward comes from gratitude for the past. Very often corporate people forget this. 3:41 They criticize the past and say, we want better in the future. And that creates fixed thinking, a binary attitude and puts fear in the, and doubt into the hearts and minds of people they lead. 3:57 The second one is presence. Presence means this moment in time is enjoyable, priceless, and valuable in presence. We forget the past because we are grateful for it. 4:10 We forget the future because we are certain about it. We turn up inspired and happy. The third step in inspiration is certainty. 4:21 Certainty to sell a vision and drive transition. The the key is storytelling. The ability to believe it before you see it. 4:31 Most people are waiting to see it in order to believe it, but a leader cannot do that. Finally, love, and yes, it’s a corporate presentation, but take love out of anything and it dies. 4:45 We need to have love of the product, the service, the deliverable, the process. Love binds everything and is behind all great leadership. 4:58 The third one is purpose. Why will I go through the discomfort and pain? Give me a reason more than money, and this is an interesting piece of information you may want to take note. 5:12 80% of all leaders fail, and the question we’re always asking is, which 80% is going to fail? Well, 25% of leaders who fail fail because they lack certainty of the future. 5:29 They’re guessing, they’re setting analytical statistics and they’re hoping the future will turn out the way they want it. There is no certainty and the person with the greater certainty leads. 5:43 30% of the 80% of leaders who fail fail because they’re not grateful for the past. They keep criticizing people for what they’ve done and telling them they need to do better in the future, and the energy for that goes nowhere. 6:00 The energy for the future comes from gratitude For the past, what we’ve overcome, what we’ve achieved, 40% of the 80% who fail failed because they lack presence. 6:19 The leader’s mindset therefore, is to drive transitions. The never ending transitions, the answer of the four questions, where are we going? 6:32 In other words, what’s our vision? Why are we here? What inspires us? Who are we? What’s the purpose of all this, and where did we come from? 6:41 Gratitude, as we’ve said, which is the energy that builds the future. Gratitude, presence, certainty and love. The art of leadership that’s driving transitions. 6:55 Finally, more food for thought. Things that I’ve learned from leading people into dangerous players, places in the Himalayas. You can’t be going through the same turmoil as those you lead. 7:12 Your job is to solve problems before they happen and never ever be surprised. Always know the future. Check the weather, know the path. 7:24 Have a brilliant plan B, and remember the person who can implement plan B. The fastest leads always delegate management. A leader is only as good as the team they have. 7:39 You must know the difference between leadership and management. Never manage, always know your enemies. Is the last food for thought teams Gravitate always to the lowest common denominator. 7:56 Usually those with the loudest emotional voice. Make sure your inner voice is louder than those outer voices. This is how we drive transition. 8:10 Thank you for listening. This is Chris. Have a great day.
